Finally we arrived last night, we have lost the concept of time as much as we have done in the past two days. Unless you've done this trip, do not refer to the amount of a toll it takes on your body! We checked in at Heathrow at 4:30 pm on Wednesday afternoon, to discover that our transfer from Singapore to Sydney (which was meant to be 90 minutes) was delayed for 7 hours and 40 minutes. We thought this would be a huge inconvenience, but we were very wrong.
We arrived in Singapore after a flight of 12 hours at 7 pm local time (24:00 GMT), hit by a wall of heat and humidity, they were transferred to a coach to take us to a nearby hotel, hostel waiting seedy, Sheraton Towers shook us up, a mini-metropolis in the city center. We got the room key and gave way to the restaurant, where a buffet of amazing Asian food awaited us. There waterfall in the back of the restaurant, a waterfall real ... with Koi 'Chillin tent in your mouth. (In addition to the waterfall in the middle of the hotel itself!). After stuffing your face, have a drink, a couple of hours of sleep we were all ready to go for the rest of the trip.
Then we flew to Sydney (7 hours), and then a connection to Auckland (4 hours) (no more deliberate delays. Ate a lot. All courtesy of Qantas. Believe that we must know to keep sweet! Each time awoke during flights, there would be another meal awaits us!
We tried to find our hostel once we got to Auckland (one hour by bus) at 11 pm on Friday (24:00 GMT), but Jade takes me most of our luggage (about 36 kilos) uphill jet lag, pain, partially deaf fly after about 32 hours of travel, we decided to take a taxi (which happened just around the corner and we were there - we were not very far).
Finally we arrived at our first duty station, YMCA Auckland, our bags were lying on the ground and collapsed that night.
Bright eyes and bushy tail (sort of), we were ready to explore the city! Some fuel breakfast in us, Jade demolished enormous eggs and mushrooms on toast in a display unusual. The weather was acting in a way that we can only describe as the British summer, we needed some additional layers, we went to the shops! A hoodie and a rain mac later, Jade was happy.
Auckland is home to a Sky tower 328 meters high, you could, jump, turn around (outside), or take lift and look out the window, we thought it best to opt for the second. But the views were amazing, we took in the 360 degree view that extended for miles.
The lunchtime! Our first full day (but away our third from the UK!) Ends with a quick meet some of the Contiki tour group Kiwiana Panorama at the Mercure that we started with the morning. We're still waiting to find a PC that can upload some photos.
It's 8:16 pm here, when Doctor Who on DVD and go to bed early, we have a busy few weeks ahead.
