Face To Face With The Fighting SeabeeThe Fighting Seabee
The Fighting Seabee has been a symbol seen in Rhode Island since World War II. In early 1942, Frank Iafrate, a clerk at Quonset Naval Air Station (North Kingstown, Rhode Island) was the designer. The creation was for the recently formed Construction Battalion ("C B"). The symbolism is the busy bee that works industriously and yet is capable of protecting his property when confronted by an enemy.
Today, the Naval Construction Battalion and their work is found around the world. This statue is from the Seabee's place of founding at the Seabee Museum and Memorial Park in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
