Review of James Robinson and Paul Smith's famous miniseries focusing on the DC Universe's Golden Age heroes. In a series that draws comparisons to Watchmen, the JSA have to deal with the very human implications of an America that is both happy to be done with a war and yet scared of what happens next. Before he was the writer of Civil War, before the Ultimates, before even The Authority, Mark Millar worked on DC's Superman Adventures for two years, producing some of the best work of his career starring the hero he respects more than any other. Take a retrospective look back at Millar's early work this weekend. Read More... superman      superman adventures      lex luthor      mark millar      comics      All
Review of the best Justice League episode ever produced. If you inexplicably need more than that, it's the Justice League against their evil counterparts in an episode that would influence the series for years to come, as well as being a damn fine episode in its own right. When the worst part of the episode is an epic Superman / Doomsday fight, you know it's great. Review of the Superman: The Animated Series episode "Absolute Power", which features Superman having to make a choice between supporting a despotic new version of Krypton set up by the ersatz General Zod Jax-Ur and freeing the people while potentially crippling their restored society. Unfortunately, the story doesn't deliver on a strong premise. Read More... superman      superman tas      comics      animation      general zod      jax-ur      All
Review of a very strong Superman episode that was revisited in the Justice League years, as Lois Lane gets catapaulted to an alternate world where her untimely death has turned Superman into a despotic ruler. A really strong episode, if unfortunately and necessarily shorter than it could have been. Review of Morrison & Quitely's first mainstream collaboration, as Morrison pits his version of the JLA against the Crime Syndicate, their evil duplicates from another world. A JLA great story from the creative team that would go on to be one of the best collaborative pairs of the decade. Review of an entire episode featuring the two most prominent black superheroes in the DC Animated Universe, Static and Green Lantern, as Static is forced to take on his hero in combat when Green Lantern turns rogue. A pretty good episode, although something of a missed opportunity. Read More... comics      animation      static shock      justice league      green lantern      static      All

Review of the 2003 JLA / JSA premium format special written by Geoff Johns with art by Carlos Pacheco, as the Justice League and Justice Society are torn apart by a set of demonic possessions under the control of two old villains. A great, unapolagetic superhero romp of a story, with great art by Pacheco. Read More... justice league      comics      justice society      batman      geoff johns      All
Review of Batman's second appearance on Static Shock, with Static returning the favour and heading to Gotham City to help Batman with one of his classmates who has been duped into aiding Harley and Ivy. This one's a much better episode than the first team-up, complete with funny cameos from Alfred and Harvey Bullock and a better story from longtime Batman writer Paul Dini.
