It has been a long development for the fifth Indiana Jones movie. So long that this writer was in middle school when development started on it and has now graduated from college and is still waiting for it. Ever since the 2008 release of Crystal Skull, LucasFilm has been trying to make a fifth installment. After a long time in development, there is now forward momentum regarding the future of the Indiana Jones series. You may remember that for the first time in the series history, Spielberg will not direct the film. He will remain on board as a producer that is actively involved with the next installment of the series. Sources that the decision for Spielberg to step out of the chair was his own as he wanted to pass on the bullwhip to the next generation of filmmakers and his schedule is filled with films that he is working on. He chose Logan and Ford V. Ferrari filmmaker James Mangold as his replacement and we haven't heard much about the movie until now. Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge is set to co-star opposite Ford as the film's female lead. Plot details are still vague as to what this fifth adventure will look like and who Bridge will be playing. This will be the second time LucasFilm and Waller-Bridge have collaborated, with Waller-Bridge appearing in Solo: A Star Wars Story back in 2018. While no one else besides Ford and Waller-Bridge have been attached to star in the project yet, Mangold has been meeting with other talent for other roles in preparation for a summer production. The film is set to bow on July 29, 2022.
