As The Duffer Bros. begin to wind down work on their final, extended season of the hit show Stranger Things, it looks like they're officially beginning to develop a new project for Netflix. The pair have now signed a deal alongside Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment to turn Stephen King's The Talisman into a new series on the streaming outlet. Paramount Television Studios is actively pushing to adapt the book as a multi-season show on the streamer. Stranger Things writer and executive producer Curtis Gwinn will be writing and serving as the showrunner on the series. Matt and Ross Duffer will be on board as producers via their Monkey Massacre Productions creative banner. Apparently, Spielberg himself may be also boarding in a producer role for The Talisman. List of Entrepreneurship articles published on Maven Inc’s ToughNickel platform. Prior to writing online, I operated a Marcom/graphic design agency for 16 years. Because of that, my earliest articles were all about entrepreneurship and business management. Nowhere near the sort of entertainment and lifestyle write-ups that I’m doing now. image courtesy WBWith only a couple weeks to go to until the release of Zack Snyder's four hour cut of his Justice League, it looks like fans might be ultimately disappointed with one of Warner Bros.' decisions surrounding the film's release. It's been known for a while that this massively extended vision of the super hero team up would hit HBO Max exclusively and will hopefully see a blu-ray and 4K home release. While the internet and social media is at war with itself over Snyder's cut of the film, it looks like Warner has officially decided to never give the project a theatrical release at all. Some had hoped for a limited cinematic jaunt or IMAX run with their favorite heroes. However, WB has decided to cut their already millions in losses to see the film only go to HBO Max

Based on the novel and young adult series, The Knife of Never Letting Go, a post Star Wars Daisy Ridley and Spider-Man star Tom Holland team up in the feature film that combines consistent Western tropes with science fiction, cult based religious themes, gender dynamics, and a troubled script that muddles its message of acceptance repeatedly. While Ridley and Holland do their damnedest to rise above the muck of a tonally problematic film, director Doug Liman mildly falters as he awaits production on his Edge of Tomorrow sequel to happen. This is not his best effort at all. Yet, the dynamic of cros

As frightening to receive as it is to give, trust can make or break any connection forged between two beings. Raya and the Last Dragon, a new animated adventure, posits that it can also make or break the fate of an entire culture. Disney’s latest animated feature, released both theatrically and available on Disney+ with a premium membership, is a dynamic and ambitious blend of action film, fantasy, and Eastern-inspired legend. Starring a young heroine named Raya (voiced by Kelly Marie Tran) and a silly, endearing water dragon named Sisu (voiced by Awkwafina), the film takes cues from series like Avatar: The Last Airbenderand The Dark Crystal: Age

images courtesy WBWe are just days away from Zack Snyder's vision of Justice League hitting HBO Max exclusively. After a fan petition unlike any other and years of waiting, the director's original idea for DC'S most famous heroes will finally see the light of day. With some claiming its an act of ego and others clamoring to get their eyes on the 4 hour movie as soon as possible, one thing is certain: We have never seen something like this in the history of film. Going from a shortened version by Joss Whedon to a totally fresh new take on a movie, there's never really been a pop culture phenomenon quite like this one. While the internet still battles it out over Snyder and his film works, one thing is for sure. People will be watching to see if the Justice League sees creative redemption i

image courtesy DisneyThe box office continues to struggle in various parts of the world as the pandemic continues to cause damage to finances for all the major studios. This weekend saw Disney's latest animated release, Raya and The Last Dragon take a foothold in the domestic U.S. box office with it's $8.6 million take but it still is only a shade of what it would have done in normal times.A big animation hit for that studio would typically take in much higher opening grosses. Unfortunately, things may really start to improve until the summer when vaccines are much easier to come by. It did come in the number one position beating out any other competition from other newcomers like Chaos Walking and Boogie, but will need to recoup major money from its Disney+ premium rental. Years before taking on screenwriting gigs like the 2019 Disney live action remake of Lady and the Tramp, writer-director Andrew Bujalski was known among early-2000s cinephiles as the ‘Godfather of mumblecore’. That subgenre of film not too dissimilar from Trier & Vinterberg’s Dogme 95 Manifesto for its emphasis on shoestring budgets and improvised dialogue or performances, mumblecore caught fire in 2002 with Bujalski’s debut Funny Ha Ha. Generally his films are set in the present day and concern younger characters, but with his fourth feature film Computer Chess he embarked on his first period piece with acute attention to minute details signifying the dawn of what would or would not evolve into what we know as the digital age. Set in 1980, Computer Chess begins

Image Courtesy of Third Window FilmsUjicha is not well known outside of Japan, with his films not getting much play outside of film festivals. He uses a style of animation called Gekimation which consists of stylized and detailed cut outs that are paraded around over lush backgrounds. Gekiga, the root word, refers to adult-oriented manga and Ujicha's work is similar in that it uses whimsical and colorful deigns to tell brutal and nihilistic stories. On paper it sounds simplistic, but in practice, it is quite striking and compelling. Each character has hundreds of variations and Ujicha likes to use real liquids to represent body fluids like blood, vomit, and pus. This mixed media style approach feels like fourth-wall breaking, taking the characters from paper to organic real life.Burning B

As the world is readied for a new cinematic G.I. Joe film centered around Snake Eyes, it looks like Amazon will continue to expand on the mythology surrounding the franchise. The streaming service is readying a new project that will bring the heroic Lady Jaye to the front lines in a new live action television series. Word just broke via Deadline a few minutes ago that Amazon is in the early stages of creating a new project that is being developed by Erik Oleson, who is currently attached as showrunner on Carnival Row. Paramount Television Studios has partnered with eOne and Skydance Television to get the latest G.I. Joe media release off the ground. G.I. Joe was last seen in two films that didn't really light the box office on fire. The first one was critically ravaged and starred Ch

The fates haven’t been particularly kind or fair to Nicholas Jarecki’s ensemble opioid epidemic drama Crisis. Shot in early 2019 in Detroit and Montreal, the film was delayed for a year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic followed by a still developing scandal involving one of the film’s principal actors. That’s a real shame because at the end of the day, Jarecki’s film is a quite good offering in the drug war subgenre of films as well as prominently featuring yet another stellar performance from the gifted actor Gary Oldman. The film isn’t quite up to par with Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic but finds its own footing in the genre anyhow. Concerning three interlocking stories, Crisis follows a drug trafficker/federal agent named Jake Kelly (Armie Hammer) who arranges a

Distrust of the government has been an amplifying theme of American culture since its revolutionary inception. Cultural themes are constantly reflected in cinema, expressions of generations in distress, lost in the political machinations of the rich and powerful. The 1970's is widely considered to be the most daring decade of American film. Studios, not yet absorbed by theme park illusion, backed maverick auteurs and reputed madmen, allowing them to make passion projects and scathing refutations of the systems in which they labored. From this creative miasma, the conspiracy thriller rose to prominence. While Russia and the USA shadowboxed, citizens lived in fear of spies, communists, governments, and other media born nightmares and a rogue's gallery of
