But it's breaking that George Clooney and his Smokehouse Pictures partner Grant Heslov have just boarded the Legendary Pictures reboot of Buck Rogers as producers on the upcoming slate of projects. It's been in the developmental phases for some time now. While we cannot confirm any of the news other than what The Hollywood Reporter has posted tonight, rumors are swirling that Clooney is also looking to star as the classic science fiction adventure character. As The Duffer Bros. begin to wind down work on their final, extended season of the hit show Stranger Things, it looks like they're officially beginning to develop a new project for Netflix. The pair have now signed a deal alongside Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment to turn Stephen King's The Talisman into a new series on the streaming outlet. Paramount Television Studios is actively pushing to adapt the book as a multi-season show on the streamer. Stranger Things writer and executive producer Curtis Gwinn will be writing and serving as the showrunner on the series. Matt and Ross Duffer will be on board as producers via their Monkey Massacre Productions creative banner. Apparently, Spielberg himself may be also boarding in a producer role for The Talisman. The film from Warner Bros. and director Adam Wingard has gone on to gross the biggest opening weekend since the beginning of the global pandemic. As people get a little more comfortable heading back out into the public, theaters are finally seeing some lifeblood flow in the form of ticket sales. The long awaited dual between Godzilla and Kong ended up bringing in roughly $48 million over the extended Easter weekend which means the summer blockbuster season may start to heat up. With theaters still hurting from the pandemic, re-releases of big budget movies seem to continue drumming up interest. It's been announced that the Lord of the Rings trilogy remaster will be in IMAX cinemas beginning tomorrow. The Peter Jackson film trilogy went on to earn nearly $3 billion in its theatrical run and will now get another proper cinematic jaunt as it hits most major theater chains beginning on Friday, February 5th 2021. Considering there are no big studio releases this weekend, this could prove to be a success with no other real competition. This spring’s release of Shoplifters Of The World drops on streaming this weekend after several delays amid a global pandemic that’s seen the indie film world struggle to cope.
